A couple of weeks ago I received a phone call from Nathan, informing me that he couldn't meet me for a planned shoot on 18th April due to him going on a last minute trip fishing in Lyon at Parc De La Tete D'or on the 16th. However he was kind enough to ask me if I fancied the trip myself! Him and his mates were going for a week, and although I wouldn't be able to go for the duration of the trip due to work committments, I was definitely keen to get over there even if it was for a few days! This would give me the opportunity to acquire some images that would show the social side to Nathans fishing, never mind the fact that the park is a stunning venue in its own right. I managed to find myself a flight from Manchester there, the same one as Nathan, although for me to come back early, the only flight I could get back would be to London Gatwick.
April 16th came around soon enough, and due to flight restrictions, fitting things in cases, bait problems etc, we could only take small little 6ft rods, not the normal 12ft ones we generally use over here. Not to mention we were only taking one each never mind three that we would normally use! In my mind all I could think was that we weren't prepared well enough, but how wrong was I! In the three days that I was with them, between four of us we managed 32 fish, including a 57lb 6oz mirror carp for myself! Six other forties and countless thirty pound plus fish. To say I was blown away with the trip is a massive understatement, and its something that I will never forget. One of the highlights of my fishing life so far for sure. I didn't want to come home! Regarding the photography side of the trip (as I reminded myself I had work to do whilst I was there!) I managed to get plenty of catch shots, detailed shots of the actual fish and some nice release shots. These shots will go a long way in my editorial piece, as the social side of things show clearly the enjoyment Nathan receives from his fishing, I just hope my images put that across!
